A Bottled Water Named Fred

Posted by Julie | September 6th, 2010

Hi There. It’s been a while since I posted. Sorry. But frankly not too much caught my attention this summer…until this.

A bottled water named Fred.

Cool packaging, clean, minimalist…and of course the name.

The bottle was first brought to my attention by my husband, Fred (no relation to the water).

Maybe that’s what caught my eye at first, but on closer inspection I liked the whole package.

You can find out more about Fred (the water) here.

Should Arizona Iced Tea Boycott Arizona?

Posted by Julie | May 5th, 2010

In response to all the negative press about the immigration reforms in Arizona, Arizona Iced Tea has posted a statement on it’s site assuring its customers that it is not from Arizona.  In fact it’s from Brooklyn and is now head quartered in Long Island.

Interesting move.

you might call it “biting the hand that feeds you strategy”.

More Great 70’s Brands

Posted by Julie | March 2nd, 2010

This Flowbee hair cutter example was sent in from a BrandTwist reader in response to yesterday’s post on The Pet Rock and other Great 70’s Brands.

Does anyone remember it? Did anyone try it?

Thanks for all the great responses (and the birthday wishes).

Any other nostalgic faves?

Which Brands Say “I Love You”?

Posted by Julie | February 9th, 2010

There are only 5 days left to Valentine’s Day, have you found that special gift to show how much you care?

I’ve got a few ideas, and I’m hoping the BrandTwist readers can help me build on them.

Chocolate is always a good standby.  But I say if you are going to give such  a classic gift, do it with a twist. That’s why I love Vosges Chocolates.  The packaging alone is an aphrodisiac. And the flavor combinations are so inspired. The bacon and chocolate combo sounds bizarre, but trust me it’s fabulous.

A little Google searching under “Unique Valentine’s Day Gifts” came up with this interesting site. It’s called FindGift.com. You  input information about who the gift is for and it serves up a list of suggestions.

In my case, I put in information about my husband and it suggested these interesting experiences including a chance to Test Drive his Favorite Race Car, a 007 James Bond Camp, a Harley Davidson Motorcycle Adventure, and Zookeeper For the Day.

For those of you feeling a bit more bah humbug (or bah lovebug) about the holiday, there are actually Anti-Valentine’s Day gifts.

Do these Tiger golf balls cross the line?

These Tiger Woods Mistress golf balls hit the news yesterday and according to the media have at least one of his alleged former mistresses up in arms.

What do you think? Is this a harmless “novelty” product taking advantage of an outrageous scandal or do you agree that there’s something darker at play here? Do these promote violence against women?

Personally I think they cross the line. I have a hard time with the notion of hittin women’s faces -even if it’s done in “sport”.

Wondering  if they will sell and who will buy them.

What’s your twist?

iPad: Genius or Hype?

Posted by Julie | January 28th, 2010

Unless you are living under a rock, you have no doubt seen Apple’s iPad launched yesterday.

I am in awe of the design and the user interface.  But as I fight off falling head over heels under the powerful Apple spell…I do have a few questions.

Is Domino’s the “New Coke”?

Posted by Julie | January 12th, 2010

Many of you probably remember the Domino’s fiasco of last April when two employees made a rogue video pretending to put disgusting things in the pizza.

The employees were fired, the video was removed from You Tube and the company issued a statement reassuring people on the quality of their food (and their employees).

If you missed the incident, it’s summarized in this video from the Today Show.

Well, a quick 8 months later, Domino’s is creating it’s own viral campaign with this video called “The Pizza Turnaround”.

My question is whether this effort is an effective authentic response, or whether it goes too far in it’s apologetic tone.

One of a Kind Gifts, On Demand

Posted by Julie | December 24th, 2009

In case you missed it, interesting article in yesterday’s New York Times: On the Web, Workshops That Help Shoppers Create One-of-a-Kind Gifts.

Sites like Zazzle.com, Blurb.com and Blue Nile can help you create everything from personalized stamps with your family photo, a recipe book with pictures and handwritten recipes to a custom designed diamond ring.

Unlike past customizable products (t-shirts, mugs, mouse pads), advances in manufacturing have significantly increased the quality, range  and  degree of customization of  the products.
