Phonebooth With a Poetic Twist

telepoem

Telephone booths have become old school relics of the past, until Elizabeth Hellstern took one and added a poetic TWIST to create Telepoem, an experiential art piece that debuted in Flagstaff, Arizona.

The Telepoem booth offers the younger set a novel, “new” experience of dialing a rotary phone in phone booth, and it provides a comforting dose of quiet and nostalgia for the senior set. For both, it’s a respite from an increasingly higher tech world, free of selfie taking or texting – just a solitary space and listen – to poetry recited by the authors.

What started out as a one-off, is available for purchase or rental and the artist is seeking funding to create more.

Hellstern didn’t invent the phonebooth, rotary dial phone or poetry. She took inspiration from an array of seemingly unrelated interests and existing items to deliver a novel experience.

How can you enhance your customer’s enjoyment? Take a look at what you already have in your business and TWIST unrelated assets together to see what emerges.

April is National Poetry Month… Use poetry to build your brand by creating a brand Haiku (Here’s how). It’s just one of the may exercises we use in Brand School

Promoting Pet Adoption With a Tennis Twist

ball-dogs

Stray dogs are problem the world over. Shelters are overflowing and animal rescue organizations are desperate to find ways to increase pet adoptions. How could a completely outside of category business lend support? Take the USTA (United States Tennis Association) and TWIST it with the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). That’s what The Brazilian Tennis Confederation (CBS) did when they created the “Ball Dogs”  campaign – an entertaining and fun initiative that demonstrates how smart shelter dogs can be.

Debuting at the Brazil Open tennis tournament, four stray dogs abandoned in Sao Paulo slums participated in the match demonstrating their newly learned skills as ‘ball dogs’ – and captivated everyone’s attention and hearts.

“The idea is to show people that a well-fed and well-treated animal can be very happy. We have more than 1,000 dogs in our care,” Marli Scaramella, the organizer of the ball-dog initiative, told the Associated Press.

Successful businesses promise to solve problems, make lives easier, better and more fun. When the CBS partnered with the shelter dog initiative, they showed the world they have a heart, are willing to help, and that they care – creating a deeper and more emotional connection with their audience.

Top 5 Freedom Brands

Independence Day in the U.S.A. is a time to salute our founding fathers and mothers and take a moment to celebrate the birth of our great country…and of course consume way too many hot dogs and too much coleslaw and beer.

A Creative Business and Travel Twist

jobattical

We hear from work-from-home business owners and solopreneurs how they often  feel isolated and how challenging it is to remain inspired and innovative when they are alone in the same space day-in and day-out.  Something as simple as a little TWIST in the routine, like working from a local coffee shop or library can be a refreshing change – for the short term. A vacation provides some needed rest and relaxation but won’t hone your business skills. What if you had the opportunity to really break free of the isolated work-a-day routine while making new connections and keeping your business thinking cap on?

Take Match.com, twist it with Travelocity.com, and you get Jobbatical, “It’s a word made up of “job” and “sabbatical”. It means a professional career break where people use their skills and knowhow to work on an exciting project in a new team in a new environment – without dipping into your life savings.”

Jobbatical took a look at the growing temporary and part-time employment trend and created a service to bring together employer and employee in a way where each can add value to the other’s business skills and enhance one another’s creative thinking – all while providing a rejuvenating travel experience.

Where would you love to go to get paid AND see the world?

Keeping the creative ideas flowing is essential to keeping your business and brand fresh and alive in your customer’s mind. A Twist That Keeps Up With Kids

shoe-grow

Kids grow and they out grow their shoes. Efforts to keep children equipped with proper-fitting shoes is especially challenging in impoverished nations where hundreds of millions of children go shoeless and even more wear shoes that don’t fit.  Without shoes, they may suffer injuries and contract infections and parasites. This new TWIST is a new solution to an old, but potentially life and death problem.

Kids outgrowing their products and clothes is not a new thing.  Other categories have met this challenge with cribs that transform into toddler and then big kid beds, baby strollers that re-configure to fit toddlers, and even pants that have a few sizes built in with cuffs that roll down. How then to make a shoe that lasts and grows with a child?

The Shoe That Lasts does just that. It literally grows as a child grows and lasts up to five years. It was created by International Founder and Executive Director Kenton Lee when he was living in Nairobi. He spotted a little girl wearing shoes that were way to small for her feet. As he began to wonder why, he arrived at this question,  “Wouldn’t it be great if there was a shoe that could adjust and expand – so that kids always had a pair of shoes that fit?”

And so, The Shoe That Grows project began. This is the first project of Because International, a 501©3 organization committed to practical compassion to help those living in extreme poverty.

Kenton Lee saw a gap and filled a need. There’s always room to grow. Don’t be afraid to ask “What if?”

At Brand School we help give you the tools you need to ask the right questions and innovate solutions to grow your business.  See if Brand School could help grow your business with a one-on-one Brand Health Check Strategy Session.
