{"id":12943,"date":"2009-09-03T15:35:00","date_gmt":"2009-09-03T20:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/BrandTwist.com\/?p=65"},"modified":"2018-10-18T20:14:59","modified_gmt":"2018-10-18T20:14:59","slug":"kennedy-the-brand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brandtwist.com\/blog\/celebrity-branding\/kennedy-the-brand\/","title":{"rendered":"Kennedy- The Brand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_8uAPsVQ1eAg\/SqApxSMABzI\/AAAAAAAAAXM\/5I_OQod3Tv0\/s1600-h\/kennedy.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5377343881752872754\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; width: 122px; height: 81px; display: inline;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_8uAPsVQ1eAg\/SqApxSMABzI\/AAAAAAAAAXM\/5I_OQod3Tv0\/s320\/kennedy.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m too young to have experienced the assassination of JFK.<\/p>\n<p>But I did grow up in Boston and the Kennedy clan has always held a certain mystique.<\/p>\n<p>I remember being glued to the TV the weekend that JFK Junior&#8217;s plane went down at sea -and feeling like I&#8217;d lost someone I actually knew.<\/p>\n<p>I also remember marvelling as a one-legged Ted Junior swooshed by as I was skiing with my family at Waterville Valley in the 70&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>I, like many others, have always been fascinated by the Kennedys.<\/p>\n<p>Not necessarily as a family, or even as individual people, but by what they stand for.<\/p>\n<p>In layman&#8217;s terms&#8230; I guess by their Brand Essence.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>A carefree &#8220;Martha&#8217;s Vineyard&#8221; sense of style<br \/>\nYouthful optimism<br \/>\nPerseverance in overcoming adversity<br \/>\nA clannish family unit<\/p>\n<p>And most recently with the passing of Senator Edward Kennedy &#8211; who served 47 years in the senate- a synonym for public service.<\/p>\n<p>And in some way perhaps similar to another public figure so recently lost, Michael Jackson, a brand full of contradictions.<\/p>\n<p>Ted Kennedy overcame great moral failings publicly displayed in Chappaquiddick to be regarded as a moral compass on issues like health care reform.<\/p>\n<p>JFK a great leader is well recognized for his own personal infidelities.<\/p>\n<p>Even JFK junior, the golden boy who still rode the NYC subways to work, failed several times (very publicly) to pass his bar exam.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe it&#8217;s this display of both good and bad and the acute attempts at redemption that make them seem so human and relatable and that draws us in.<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe it&#8217;s the opposite. Maybe it&#8217;s their &#8220;otherworldness&#8221;. The golden family. Like a J Crew ad- but even more stylized &#8211; that&#8217;s part of the allure.<\/p>\n<p>President Obama said they have been synonymous with the Democratic party and ideals.<\/p>\n<p>However, I think there was and is something more universal about their appeal.<\/p>\n<p>I believe people all over the political spectrum are feeling a loss this week. A loss of someone we feel we knew.<\/p>\n<p>A man admired both for his approachability and for the aspirational ideal which he embodied.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s my point of view.
