We had a great conversation, discussing best practices for businesses and the importance of individuals building their personal brands. Whether you\u2019re a recent college graduate or an established business, there is so much competition these days\u2014or as I like to say, the noise in the market is like when the teacher talks to Charlie Brown and all he hears is \u201cWah, wah, wah, wah, wah.\u201d <strong>Finding your TWIST is about defining what\u2019s really unique about you\u2014and getting people to pay attention. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t be afraid to add your personal passions to support your professional TWIST. One Brand School student who was a kitchen designer was also an amateur ballroom dancer. She re-branded her business as kitchen choreography and it really took off.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Edit your elevator pitch.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Having a great elevator pitch is key. A lot of people have an elevator pitch that takes 20 floors to get to the heart of what they uniquely offer because they focus too much on the nuts and bolts. <strong>You\u2019re not going to distinguish yourself by what you do or sell, but how you make people feel. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Branding is like an onion. You want people to get interested in peeling the onion. You don\u2019t have to say everything right off the bat, but what you should lead with is your TWIST. What\u2019s different? What problem are you trying to solve? How is your way of delivering a product or service better?<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Let others inspire you.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Your brand has to come from what\u2019s unique and authentic about you; however, <strong>you can look at other successful brands and TWIST lessons from brands that you love with your own<\/strong>. For example, Starbucks is a great brand. It manages to charge a premium not just for the coffee, but for the experience\u2014and they\u2019re all about personalization. So, if you\u2019re a dry cleaner, how can you TWIST with Starbucks?
