{"id":2398,"date":"2010-07-02T07:57:05","date_gmt":"2010-07-02T12:57:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/BrandTwist.com\/?p=2398"},"modified":"2018-10-18T20:14:20","modified_gmt":"2018-10-18T20:14:20","slug":"summer-camp-for-grown-ups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brandtwist.com\/blog\/inspiration\/summer-camp-for-grown-ups\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer Camp for Grown-ups?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cWhat do you mean you have to go to work in the summer?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This from the lips of my precocious, yet insightful, 9 year old son.<\/p>\n<p>I have to admit, I\u2019ve had the same thought lately.<\/p>\n<p>As both a parent and a career person, the rhythm of my life is very much affected by the rhythm of my children\u2019s lives\u2026including the seasonal changes driven by the calendar of a student.<\/p>\n<p>In the fall as they prepare for back to school, I often find myself also exploring and committing to some new learning opportunity (e.g. honing my social media skills, attending a conference on a marketing topic I want to learn more about or flexing my creative muscles through a writing class or cooking etc.).<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, when school ends in June and they get to kick back and take a break\u2026I find myself longing for one too.<\/p>\n<p>Sure things slow down in the summer a bit at work, there are half day Summer Friday&#8217;s, long holiday weekends, and the requisite summer vacation.<\/p>\n<p>But sometimes it still doesn\u2019t feel like enough.<\/p>\n<p>I think what I am really longing for is\u2026camp.<br \/>\n<!--more Keep reading \u00bb --><br \/>\nThe opportunity to go to a different and special location, to move to a different rhythm, to experience new people and new ideas.<\/p>\n<p>To swim, hike, be outdoors more. Try my hand at different skills- like pottery, lanyard, belt making etc.<\/p>\n<p>Bring more music into my life with campfire songs and sing alongs.<\/p>\n<p>How can I feel more the spirit of camp, while sitting 9 to 5 at my desk?<\/p>\n<p>I could start packing Smores with my lunch, but I don\u2019t think that\u2019s a really viable solution. Not for my waistline at least.<\/p>\n<p>One thing I&#8217;m trying to do is to get out and go for a walk at lunch.<br \/>\nWhile I\u2019m not exploring wooded hiking trails, I am trying to find new streets and stores in Soho that I don\u2019t already know.<\/p>\n<p>And I am stopping often for a Pinkberry gelato on the way back to the office which does gives me a feeling of re-freshment\u00a0 (and sure beats the sugary Popsicles of my youth).<\/p>\n<p>This little infusion of summer time in my work day doesn\u2019t quite quench my thirst for a bonafide carefree childhood summer&#8230;but it\u2019s a start.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s my point of view.
