The type of music varies, but having something in the background helps my mood \u2013 it calms me, energizes me, and keeps me focused.<\/p>\n<p>So I was excited when some pre-work for a workshop I recently attended entitled <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.purplecrayoncenter.org\/calendar\/event\/246\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Brand of You\u201d<\/a> <\/strong>(led by BrandTwist\u2019s own Julie Cottineau), was to choose a song, poem or quote that described my personal brand.<\/p>\n<p><em>Editors note: This workshop has passed but you can <strong>r<\/strong><em><strong>ead more<\/strong> about <strong>how to effectively tell your brand story, in Julie Cottineau&#8217;s article,<a href=\"http:\/\/purplecrayoncenter.org\/blog\/?p=285\">\u00a0HERE<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/purplecrayoncenter.org\/blog\/?p=285\">.<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><strong>If you want to make sure you hear about future events like the one Carolyn attended, sign up for our mailing list.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>[sc:newoptin]\u00a0I immediately decided that I\u2019d choose a song \u2013 but which one to pick? What would best describe my company \u2013 <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/carolynbrowning.com\">MEETing Needs<\/a><\/strong>? My brain was bouncing in different directions as I started listening to the radio. I happened to be tuned to the Broadway show tunes station when, it hit me &#8211; \u201cPutting it Together\u201d, a Sondheim classic from Sunday in the Park with George, about an artist who is trying to overcome objections from his manager, investor and wife, about his style and the direction his art is going in.<\/p>\n<p>I started singing some of the lines<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>\u201cBit by bit, putting it together\u2026 Every moment makes a contribution; every little detail plays a part. Having just a vision\u2019s no solution, everything depends on execution\u2026.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong> This really resonated with me and my new brand and it ties together the three core facets of my business. Here are some of the other lyrics and the correlations I drew:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong> \u201cLink by link, making the connections\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>In my speaking\/training area \u2013 I love helping people connect concepts together.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>\u201cFirst of all you need a good foundation,\u00a0<\/strong><strong><\/strong><strong>otherwise it\u2019s risky from the start\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">When facilitating a meeting or retreat for a group, a good foundation and vision is critical<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>\u201cMapping out the right configuration\u2026 starting with a suitable foundation\u2026 til you have a balanced composition&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This applies to meeting management, planning things out \u2013 keeping harmony among the various parties \u2013 balancing the stakeholders needs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cPutting it Together\u201d\u00a0could be the soundtrack for my life, both personally and professionally \u2013 almost everything I\u2019ve done has to do with putting together people and ideas. From organizing activities for my sisters and I, to planning parties, to leading clubs in school, to training the sales team on a new product, to building a strategic plan with an association board, or finally starting my own company. Every detail plays a part \u2013 you need the vision, the plan, the team, the perspective, and the ability to execute.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Identifying your brand\u2019s theme song was a really helpful exercise <\/strong>and just the beginning of this incredible workshop. From there we delved into creating a cohesive story that resonates with our target audience.
