googlebirdThis image caught my eye this morning.

I love it.

And I love that it’s not over-explained.

The cropping and the subtly just draw you right in.

I did a little Googling (I’m sure that was their intention) and here’s the scoop.

It’s in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Sesame Street Workshop which produces Sesame Street.

I love the Big Bird legs. They are so iconic.

But I have to say Snuffy is my favorite character.

That’s my point of view. What’s your twist?

Who would you have picked from Sesame Street for the Google Banner?

  1. I just saw this myself on google.com and immediately clicked on the banner to see what the Sesame Street reference was. I never do that. Very effective, and Big Bird is such a heartwarming character with huge recognition. Iconic, as you say. Snuffleupagus was always my favorite character, too, but he’s just not as instantly recognizable. Plus, 4 legs would have been way too many to fit into the Google logo! They might have considered other characters, but could you have Ernie … without Bert? Oscar? Fun, but too negative. Elmo has the recognition factor, maybe, but he wasn’t around 40 years ago. Big Bird’s legs … it’s a perfect image. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy with nostalgia for being 3-4 years old and watching when the show first aired.
