JAWS! Thanks to Spielberg, I’m not 100% at ease in the water – the thought of jaws crosses my mind every time I go into the ocean.
Hostel. But it was too scary to watch the entire film.
the original Halloween (1978) with Jamie Lee Curtis. That chilling piano theme combined with her back-of-the-neck hair-raising screams did it for me!
Alice in Wonderland. The 1951 version and not the cartoon. We will see if the 2010 Tim Burton version measures up in fear factor.
Correction, I was referring to the 1985 Alice in Wonderland version. False information + Alice in Wonderland = can it get scarier?
The Exorcist. When I was a kid in the 70’s, just the movie trailers gave me nightmares!
It’s a toss up between The Ring and The Grudge. Crazy little kids in closets and wierd floating hair freak me out.
The shining and the original version of Psycho. My parents just happen to leave shining on one day when I was five. Not intentionally but still. So I entered the room just as Nicholson chases his son with a big axe. A memory for life yu can say.
Also, Psycho is the most thrilling movie thanks to it sounds and music. The local crowd of kids used to curly up in the sofa watching the first murder scene again and again with the volume cranked up. Still haunt’s me too.
Both really good movies though.
Wow amazing how all these movies can stay with you for so long. I still hear the Jaws music in my head even when I am in a swimming pool. And I need to shower with the curtain slightly open in hotel rooms. I was also terrified of the Wicked Witch and her flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz. Guess I’ll have to be careful what I let my own kids watch.
